Dear Parent/Student, I want to commend you for your desire to further your education as you continue with your parenting responsibilities. Fortunately, NIU recognizes the unique challenges faced by students in this life circumstance. One important resource is the newly constructed Campus Child Care Center, 753-0125. Students are eligible to have their children cared for there while they attend classes. Another service is a support group called Students Who Are Parents (SWAP), offered by University Resources for Women (URW), 753-0320. Whether or not you are interested in being involved in this support group, I want to strongly encourage you to call URW and speak with a representative from their office. The reason for this is that there are several other resources in the community that are available to you related to being a parent. The staff at URW are available to speak with you in detail about these other services and to help arrange support for you, depending on your specific needs. I hope this information is helpful. Take care and good luck as you pursue your educational goals. Sincerely, Barbed Wire
