Dear 51 Year-Old: This is obviously a very difficult time for you, and we are glad that you reached out for help. The holiday season can be both stressing and depressing for many people, and money issues can be a big part of it. It can be especially hard when you feel all alone and start to feel overwhelmed with everything. Barb Wired is very concerned that you take the steps to get the help that you need. Have you
considered identifying people in your life who can help you during
this tough time? The friend you mentioned would be a good start, and
often family and other friends can be more helpful than you would
first guess. However, family and friends can only do so much for you.
We also suggest that you contact the employee assistance
program at your workplace…they often provide short term assistance
and can refer you to community resources that can help you address
your emotional concerns, as well as your financial problems. If you do
not have an employee assistance program, contact the local community
mental health agency for assistance. Finally, it is very important that you keep yourself safe while you find ways to deal with your immediate concerns. If you find yourself in an emotional crisis, please call your local crisis line or hospital for immediate help. Barb Wired
