Thank you for your question. I can appreciate how concerned you are for your daughter, and how frustrated she is, since you both know she is capable of showing more academic competence than she is currently doing. There is an office on campus that works with students who struggle with these kinds of difficulties. It is the Center for Access-Ability Resources (CAAR) Office. I hope you will encourage your daughter to contact the CAAR Office and find out how she can be tested for a possible learning disability. Depending on the results of this assessment, your daughter may be eligible for accommodations that could help her with her learning and testing difficulties. In addition, I would like to make you aware of the academic coaching services in our office, the Counseling and Student Development Center (CSDC). Your daughter is eligible to meet individually with our academic coaching staff member to work specifically on academic skills, such as test preparation, note-taking, text-book reading, procrastination, and time management. She should just call 753-1206 or come to our office and arrange an appointment for this service. I hope these suggestions help. Good luck! Sincerely, Barb Wired |
