Thanks for writing about your concern. Yes, I think counseling might be helpful for you. You know that you are not "motivated" to focus on school, but this awareness has done nothing to change your behavior or your inner sense of what is troubling you. I agree that it is also important to get things on track soon or there will be more serious consequences. Many students try several different ways to understand and solve their problems before seeking counseling. While you haven't said so directly, I am assuming from your description of your struggle that you have tried to help yourself and so far have been unable to do so. In light of this frustration, it would seem prudent to take the next step, which is to consider counseling. CSDC offers two services that might be helpful. One is coaching for academic success, which may help if the problem you are having seems to be caused by needing better study skills as you approach more advanced courses. The second is personal counseling where you can get support from a concerned and competent therapist who will devote his or her full attention to helping you solve this problem.

Come by the Counseling and Student Development Center in the Campus Life Building, Room 200, anytime between 10:00 AM and 4:30 PM M-F, and you can talk to a counselor who can help you decide what services would be most useful in your specific situation. Good luck, and we hope to see you soon.

Sincerely,
