Group Therapy: Often the Ideal Assistance; Here's Why...

   
 

Dissertation & Thesis Support Group

2:00-3:30

Wednesdays

Facilitator: Dr. Tim Paquette
 
This group is designed for master's-level or doctoral-level graduate students working on a thesis or dissertation. Taking a "coaching" approach, members will share emotional support, campus resources, and ideas for navigating various stages of the process. This is not a therapy group or a substitute for therapy.

Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACOA)

This group for individuals from an alcoholic home will address a variety of issues such as relationships and self-esteem.

This is a ten week structured group offering support and strategies for recovering from depression.

Emotional Wisdom

Mondays

Facilitators: Dr. Anna Beth Payne & Ms. Rachel Slater
 
Emotional wisdom is the ability to be aware of one’s emotions, to respond to distressing emotions in a healthy way, and to be able to nurture qualities that support positive experiences and relationships.  Developing this wisdom is a life-long task, one that the Emotional Wisdom group can help get members started on.  It is an 8-week semi-structured group focused on helping individuals increase their awareness of self, the ability to be mindful, and the role that their emotions play in their lives.

This is an opportunity to explore how emotional and relational roadblocks may relate to family roots. Learn how to try and improve relationships with family, friends, and significant others.

Relationship Enhancement

Facilitators: Dr. Tim Paquette & Ms. Gulin Guneri-Minton
 
This group provides a safe and supportive place for students to explore their interpersonal concerns and identify ways to enhance their relationships. Group members will help each other address relationship problems with partners, friends, roommates, family members, and others. The group offers an opportunity to learn more about how you relate to others and how to utilize this awareness to make changes that can lead to more healthy and satisfying relationships.

Recognizing the Experiences of African-American Life (REAAL)

1:30-3:00

Tuesdays

Facilitators: Dr. Edward Heard & Ms. Cassandra Downs
 
REAAL is a group geared toward the college experience of African-American students. It provides African-American students a confidential and authentic atmosphere to share their unique personal journeys. Students who participate in this group will become empowered as they voice their concerns, learn to be more interpersonally effective, improve life skills, and sharpen their focus on their goals. REAAL is facilitated by African-American counselors.
