Kayak Pool Sessions
No Experience Necessary!

Never been in a whitewater kayak?  Now is the time to start learning how to paddle!  We provide basic instruction on the ins and outs of how to get started.

Details:

  • Sign up in advance at the Outing Centre.
  • The fee is $10 for NIU students and staff and $15 for community.
  • The fee is required at the time you sign up.
  • Advance registration deadline: One working day prior to the session.
  • There is a limit of 8 participants in the pool at one time.
  • The minimum number of participants is 6 individuals.
  • You will be paddling at the Gabel Swimming Pool which is located between Gabel and Graham Halls.
  • Pool Location: Gabel Hall Swimming Pool - The pool is located between building 22 and 24 on the map. 
  • Parking informationNIU Campus Map - Follow standard NIU parking procedures.  If you do not have an NIU permit, you will have to go to the pay lot (just west of the Founders Library, building 37).  This lot is about a block east of the pool.  Tickets are issued for no permits.
  • You are welcome to bring your own boat.

On the day of the pool session:

  • Dress appropriately for swimming.
  • Bring a windbreaker for when you are sitting out of your boat.
  • Lockers are available.  Locks are not provided, but are highly recommended.
  • Bring water and a snack.
  • The Outing Centre will provides kayaks, canoes, paddles, life jackets, and staff.
  • Arrive at about 15 minutes prior to the scheduled session.
