As a Recreation Services member, NIU faculty and staff receive several benefits:

  • Full use of indoor facilities (Student Recreation Center [SRC] and Chick Evans Field House).
  • The opportunity to participate in recreation programs including intramurals, personal training sessions, group fitness classes, massage therapy sessions, acupressure sessions, and the Outing Centre.
  • Locker rentals and towel services.
  • Early-morning and late-night hours.

Membership Pricing Information (faculty/staff and spouse/significant other)

  • Memberships can be purchased at the Student Recreation Center Service Counter during open recreation hours. 
  • Payroll deduction options are available for both semester and annual memberships.
  • NIU faculty and staff may purchase a membership for a spouse/significant other and/or a dependent(s).

Need help being oriented to the cardio/weight room or creating a fitness plan?

  • Personal trainers can provide:
    • Assessment of your current fitness level.
    • Assistance in identifying your fitness goals.
    • Development of an exercise program specifically designed for you.
  • Sign up for one session or multiple sessions.
  • Sign up alone or for a buddy package.

Student Recreation Center Opportunities:

  • Cardio/weight room (6,000 square feet)
    • Two complete lines of selectorized weight stations
    • 19 treadmills
    • 17 ellipticals
    • 11 step climbers
    • 20 stationary bikes (both upright & recumbent)
    • 2 rowers
  • Free-weight room (2,000 square feet)
  • Jogging/walking track – (5 ⅓ laps/mile)
  • Multi-purpose courts – basketball, tennis, volleyball, badminton
  • Racquetball/wallyball courts
  • Table tennis
  • Locker room facilities

Chick Evans Field House Opportunities:

  • Cardio/weight room (2,000 square feet)
    • 5 treadmills
    • 9 ellipticals
    • 2 step climbers
    • 5 stationary bikes (recumbent only)
  • Jogging /walking track – (7 laps/mile)
  • Multi-purpose courts – basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, floor hockey
  • Locker room facilities
    • Free day use lockers only
