Welcome from the Vice President

Our Vision in the Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment Management is to invite students to become active community members and inspire them to succeed in their individual pursuit of learning as they transform into dynamic leaders.  This Vision aligns well with the Mission of Northern Illinois University, “to promote excellence and engagement in teaching and learning, research and scholarship, creativity and artistry, and outreach and service.”

As your Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management, I want to assure you that we are advocates for each individual member of the diverse NIU student body.  We strive to make sure that every program and initiative aligns with our Vision and NIU Mission so that students experience a cohesive, collegial, accessible, and inclusive college experience.

When researchers study what it takes to succeed in college, they find that students who remain actively engaged on campus, and who develop relationships with faculty, staff, and peers, are more likely to remain in college and graduate.  Through the programs and services in the Division, we seek to actively engage students at every level and help them learn, develop, and succeed inside and outside the classroom.

The Division has numerous departments and programs all focused on providing students with the information and support they need from the admissions application process through graduation.  I encourage students to explore opportunities to develop leadership skills; find a student organization that fits their academic, social, or spiritual needs; get involved in a campus diversity Center; achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle; be intentional about exploring career opportunities; and identify a variety of student services that are in place to serve them.

As a Division, we know that there are many family members, faculty, staff, community members, other students, and alumni who are all actively engaged in increasing students’ overall success.  To meet the diverse needs of our students, we are committed to creating strong collaborative working relationships with all of these allies.  Strengthening this support network will only enhance the influence and reach of each of our efforts.

I am committed to serving students, supporting the Mission of NIU and the Division, and doing all that I can to help students succeed.  I offer this challenge to students, “Decide what you want out of your NIU experience, and then do all that you can to make that happen.”  The Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment Management, along with many other committed individuals both on and off campus, will be here as advocates and supporters as you challenge yourself to make the most of your college experience.

Go Huskies!
