NIU TipLine is an organization of university students and staff who work together to provide an environment in which learning and scholarship can flourish. TipLine is an important university resource in that it actively supports the right of each student to study and work in a quiet, respectful, and non-violent atmosphere that is conducive to the pursuit and acquisition of knowledge.

As an academic community, NIU is committed to providing an environment in which learning and scholarship can flourish. To that end, community members have come together in voluntary association to help keep their campus safe and secure.

Calls to TipLine are processed by trained TipLine operators. Callers do not reveal their names and are assigned a code number to ensure anonymity. Cash rewards are offered when information leads to an arrest or a university judicial finding of guilt.

TipLine is administered by the TipLine Board of Directors representing:

  • Residence Hall Association

  • Student Association

  • Student Housing and Dining Services

  • Physical Plant

  • University Police

  • University Judicial Office

  • Greek Row

This Board meets on a monthly basis to discuss program policy, future program development and to oversee award payments.

NIU is proud of the numerous students and staff who donate their time and service in the operation of TipLine, and in helping to keep our campus safe and secure.
