TOP
10 Reasons to call TipLine
-
For the overall good of the community.
If you call TipLine and we help to get a problem fixed for you,
chances are that it also benefits other people too. For example,
if a person breaks a rule now, it is very likely that this person
will continue to break rules until he/she is caught. So, put a stop
to Rule Breakers, for yourself and for your peers.
-
You can take a stand in your
community.
We are all equal members of the NIU community, no one can take
away your rights that come along with that. Claim the community
as your own, and take care of it. If you call TipLine we will
help you as you stand for a positive academic and recreational
atmosphere.
- You can hold people accountable for their actions.
We have all heard the saying that, "Life isnt fair,"
but that doesnt mean we should just let bad things happen. Its
not fair if people get to go around causing trouble for you or for
other people. We all pay the same amount of money to be here, so
we all should follow the same rules, and have the same punishments
when those rules are broken. Do you ever remember getting in trouble
when you were younger, while an equally guilty person got off? When
a person does something wrong s/he should be held responsible. Its
only fair.
-
The reputation of the school from which you graduate.
When you go to apply for jobs after you graduate you may want
your degree to mean something. Some schools get bad reputations
for the environment in which the students live and learn, and
that reputation will be attached to each graduate of that institution.
We all want Northern Illinois University to continue to be seen
as an upstanding, high quality university. By reporting to TipLine
any infractions of the student judicial code, we can help NIU
maintain a safe campus. Although that may not make headlines,
it will mean that future employers wont have any negatives ideas
about NIU and its graduates.
-
To avoid fines for floor damage
at the end of each term.
Did you know that at the end of each semester all of the residents
of each floor must pay for any damage that is done? This fine
is determined by figuring the cost to repair the damage, and that
is divided equally among the floor residents. You can avoid this
by calling TipLine and reporting information you have about floor
damage.
-
Positive environment to work and
study.
If there are problems on your floor (or elsewhere on
campus) it could disrupt your studies and ability to work effectively.
By calling TipLine to report problems we may be able to alleviate
that stress.
- Its easy.
All you have to do is pick up the phone! It only takes a few minutes
to complete the call, and the TipLine operators are very friendly,
and will lead you through the whole process. The phone number is
easy to remember too: 753-TIPS. You can do it in your bed;
you can do it on your head. You can do it on the floor, or standing
in a corridor; and even from a bathroom stall, but just pick up
the phone and call.
A safe campus.
You should be able to feel safe and comfortanle in any part of NIU
at any time of the day, week, or year. If you call TipLine to report
incidents the result will be a safe campus, and that would make
your parent(s) and/or guardian(s) very happy.
- Its anonymous.
When you call TipLine you will never give your name, and we do
not use caller id ever. When you call you are given a
number so that we can tell you apart from other callers. When you
collect your reward you will also use your code number so that no
one will ever know who you are.
Rewards.
Each call to TipLine has the potential to earn a reward up to $250.
The rewards vary depending on the nature of the incident, and all
rewards are decided upon by the TipLine Board of Directors, who
meet once each month. All rewards are cash.
